ATEX and CE certification of equipment
Before any equipment enters a hazardous area, it has to pass through a dense sieve of requirements – and rightly so. Because it’s not just about compliance with regulations, but about the real safety of people and entire installations. ATEX certification and CE certification of equipment is an informal stamp of quality – proof that everything works as it should, even under the most difficult conditions.
At Atex Consultancy, we help you through the process without unnecessary complications. We verify the documentation, analyse the risks, point out what needs to be improved – and when necessary, we take it upon ourselves to liaise with the notified body. We act concretely, without beating about the bush. So that you can be sure that your equipment meets your requirements and is ready to go.

Andrzej Bobula
Safety expert in the area of ATEX and machine safety, specialising in explosion risk assessment and analysis of machines used for the production of explosives. Authorised to perform work related to access to explosives (Military Institute of Armament Technology). Extensive experience in the certification of ATEX-compliant machinery and the assessment of the conformity of machinery with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC (CE).
Why is ATEX and CE certification crucial?
In the industrial sector, it is not enough that a machine works – it must work safely, as intended and in accordance with regulations. Every piece of equipment that enters a production facility should have proper documentation and meet clearly defined standards. Certification of machinery is a process that confirms that the equipment in question does not pose a risk to people, the environment or the process. What’s more – failure to certify can result not only in the inspection stopping work, but also in criminal liability in the event of an accident at work. In short, it is better to ensure compliance earlier than to have to explain it later.
What is the difference between CE certification and ATEX certification?
Many manufacturers and users of machinery assume that CE certification is sufficient for a machine to operate legally in the EU. This is only partly true. CE certification of machinery covers general safety aspects – mechanical design, electrical systems, noise, electromagnetic compatibility and much more. But if the equipment is to operate in explosive atmospheres, ATEX certification is additionally required . Only ATEX certification takes into account the risk of ignition of gases, vapours or dust – and provides a real guarantee that the equipment will not become a source of ignition. Ultimately, the two certifications are not mutually exclusive, but complementary – and only together do they create consistent protection in high-risk environments.
When and for which equipment is ATEX certification required?
The certification process is not just about filling in a few forms. It is first and foremost a risk analysis, a conformity assessment, the preparation of technical documentation and going through the verification procedures. For more complex equipment – or that which is expected to operate in demanding conditions – the whole thing can take several weeks or even months. A key role in all this is played by the CE certification body, which carries out an assessment – both on paper and technically – and, based on this, issues a decision on whether the equipment is approved for use. For many companies, this is a stressful and not fully comprehensible stage – especially if CE and ATEX certification of machinery is also required at the same time . It is therefore worth having a partner by your side to guide you through the entire process – step by step and without unnecessary surprises.
In our work, we deal with the topic of safety in hazardous areas. We take a number of measures to protect industrial plants and companies against the occurrence of explosions in hazardous areas. Certification of equipment with Atex Consultancy – efficient, comprehensive, stress-free
At Atex Consultancy, we support clients at every stage of the process, which is the certification of electrical equipment, especially those designed to operate in explosive atmospheres. We carry out a detailed analysis of the design, check the technical documentation, help prepare the conformity assessment and, if necessary, recommend the necessary changes to the design. We are familiar with the requirements of both EU directives and technical standards – which is why we are able to point out precisely what needs to be improved in order to meet all the criteria. We cooperate with renowned notified bodies, which means that the whole process is quick, factual and without unnecessary delays. For our customers, this means only one thing – confidence that the equipment meets the requirements and can be legally used.
We help you through every stage of certification – from analysis to decision
Our services range from the certification of machinery and equipment to the preparation of the complete set of documents necessary for ATEX product certification. We operate flexibly – we adapt to the type of product, the industry and even the stage the client is at. We can get involved right from the design level, but we can just as easily help with the approval of an existing piece of equipment. We pay particular attention to the explosion risk elements – which is why ATEX certification is an area in which we have extensive experience, backed up by dozens of successfully completed processes. Our experts not only know the regulations – they implement them on a daily basis and help clients avoid mistakes that can cost time and money.
