What is process safety really?

Legal requirements and industry standards

Process safety legislation did not come out of nowhere – it was developed on the basis of years of experience and painful lessons learned from major industrial accidents. The Seveso III Directive, the Polish law on the prevention of major accidents or standards such as IEC 61511 all have one common goal: to reduce the risk of disasters that can endanger people, the environment and companies.

But the law is only the beginning. True process safety goes much further than meeting minimum requirements. It is an approach that involves continuous improvement, learning from mistakes – both one’s own and those that have happened to others – and actively looking for weaknesses in processes before something serious happens. Companies that stop at ticking off points on a checklist are often not ready for the real challenges posed by the day-to-day work of the industry.

Consequences of neglecting procedural security

The consequences of process failures can be truly severe. Stopped production, financial losses, risk to the health and lives of employees, environmental contamination – these are just some of the possible consequences. In the case of serious incidents, there are also fines from regulators, compensation claims and loss of confidence, which often takes years to rebuild.

Worse still, many failures could have been foreseen and prevented if appropriate measures had been implemented earlier. The problem is that the consequences of negligence in process safety often build up slowly and unnoticed; their true scale only comes to light when failures occur. Therefore, investing in process security is not a cost to be incurred, but a real safeguard against losses that can otherwise paralyse a company for a long time.

In our work, we deal with the topic of safety in hazardous areas. We take a number of measures to protect industrial plants and companies against the occurrence of explosions in hazardous areas. Our speciality is activity based on the ATEX Directive , the resulting Polish legislation and standardisation acts on explosion safety.

Our offer includes the execution of documents such as:

  • Expertise based on the ATEX Directive,
  • Explosion protection document,
  • Control system analysis,
  • Conformity assessment of machinery (atex conformity assessment).
  • ATEX audit and HAZOP analysis

Our approach to process safety management

We start every project by taking a close look at how your facility’s processes work. We look for potential risks and where vulnerabilities may exist. We use methods such as HAZOP, What-If or Layer of Protection Analysis, but we always adapt them to your production situation. We do not duplicate off-the-shelf solutions, because every installation has its own specifics.

We build layer-by-layer protection systems so that security is maintained even when basic protection fails. We place great emphasis on security instrumented systems (SIS), which are often the last line of defence against a major incident. When designing each element of the system, we think about making it reliable, easy to maintain and really working when you need it .

Why choose our solutions?

We have experience working with a wide range of industries – from chemicals and petrochemicals to pharmaceuticals and food. As a result, we understand that each process has its own characteristics and challenges. We know the realities of the operators’ work and how to design systems that actually help them work safely and not just ‘meet standards’.

We do not end our cooperation with the preparation of documentation. We provide full support in the implementation of process safety systems – from training of teams, to testing and commissioning of installations, to audits and improvement of systems over time. We look at process safety as a long-term process that requires constant attention and regular work to make it work when it is really needed.

Comprehensive process safety support

We provide full support in the area of process safety – from risk analysis and SIL system design, through change management and team training, to audits and ongoing system improvement. We tailor each project to the specific plant, taking into account the scale of the processes, the specifics of the installation and the organisational culture of the company.

We work with our customers on a long-term basis, supporting them in building and maintaining high safety standards. Our systems are not just about meeting legal requirements – they are about real protection for people, the environment and company assets. If you are committed to bringing process safety at your plant up to the level of global best practice, let’s talk.
